Spreading the word is the mission of the students who are members of the Robotics Team 303 at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
And that word is actually five words—Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
When you add the words up, it spells STEAM.
In an effort to “spread” what STEAM is all about in schools, Team 303 will sponsor its annual–and highly successful—STEAM Week Program.
The program will run each day from Monday, June 2, through Friday, June 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s two cafeterias will be the site of the exhibits that are prepared to educate and entertain students from Grades 2 through 7 in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District.
According to Team 303, students will be grouped by grade level and will engage in fun, team-building activities. The day will also feature a routine of having an ice-breaker activity, a keynote presentation, three hands-on activities, and a collaborative game to conclude the day.
Team 303’s ringleader for this educational week is Rohit Mudduluru.
The high school junior explained the club’s mission for STEAM Week.
“We want to spread STEAM throughout the community,” Rohit revealed. “We want the kids to have fun while doing STEAM.”
He and his colleagues will offer lessons that youngerts can pick up besides their usual lessons in the classroom.
“STEAM could be hard for kids to do in school, so we offer them a chance to learn outside of class, and we will have 15 to 20 mentors each day working with them,” Rohit explained. “A lot of people can't do STEAM by themselves.”
The mentors during the week will be members of Team 303.
John Sirusas, the dedicated Advisor of Team 303, is proud of his students for this event that can serve as a recruiting tool for the club.
“This is a great introduction for younger kids and we hope that they can join our club when they enter high school,” said Mr. Sirusas, who added that the STEAM Week has been functioning for about 10 years.
Sophia Mendez, a sophomore Team 303 member who is one of the mainstays of the STEAM Week, shared her thoughts about the event.
“We want to spread the ideals of STEAM to the kids and inspire them so that they may want to have a career in these fields,’ she said.
Alex Masin, a junior, and Arshitha Harikrishna, a sophomore, are two other Team 303 members who are key contributors to STEAM Week.
“This is a free way to have fun and learn STEAM,” Rohit concluded.
