A special evening was celebrated on Thursday, May 21, at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

A total of 94 Bridgewater-Raritan High School students were inducted into the World Language Honor Societies during a touching, well-run ceremony that drew a large audience to the renovated high school auditorium.

The event recognized students for their outstanding academic achievement and commitment to their foreign language studies.

The Chinese, French, Italian, and Latin Hoor Societies participated on May 21.

Fiorella Bologno, the Advisor with Giuseppina DiMartino of the Italian Honor Society, presented a review of a memorable event.

“The ceremony highlighted the importance of world language education and the positive impact these honor societies continue to make within the Bridgewater-Raritan community. Members of the World Language Honor Societies have completed their volunteer service by tutoring other students, donating to charitable organizations, and celebrating the diverse cultures represented in our communities.”

The keynote speakers were Damian Storey, an Assistant Principal at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, and LeighAnn Matthews, Supervisor of World Language and English as a Second Language for the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District. Also in attendance was Dan Hemberger, the Principal of Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

“They (speakers) reiterated the importance of learning a foreign language and becoming global citizens and the effort demonstrated by the students. Ms. Matthews also recognized the dedication and guidance provided by the World Language Honor Society Advisors: ChiaYing Jen Liu, Jennifer Haff, Shelly Wakde, Fiorella Bologno, Giuseppina Di Martino, Lucinda Jaffe and Elizabeth Farshtey, whose mentorship has played an important role in supporting students throughout their academic journeys.” Ms. Bologno said.

“The advisors thanked Mr.Hemberger, Mr. Storey, and Ms. Matthews for their continued support of the World Language programs and for their participation in this memorable celebration.”

“ The advisors also thanked the families, caregivers, faculty members, and community supporters who attended the ceremony and continue to encourage students in their pursuit of academic excellence and cultural awareness.”

Ms. Bologno concluded:

“Congratulations to all newly inducted members of the World Language Honor Societies on this significant achievement.”
